Edit days spent watching
The editor's first days on a job go to watching rushes and logging what's there. You pay full rate for it, and the cut hasn't started.
Every shoot day buys several more in the edit just to find the good bits. Prewatch watches the footage before the editor sits down, so the paid days go to the story.
14 days free, then $59 a year or $7.99 a month. Works with your Claude or ChatGPT plan; timelines need DaVinci Resolve Studio 21.1+. Clip descriptions are optional and use your own API key, billed by Anthropic or OpenAI.

A stakeholder remembers a quote from the interview. Someone scrubs for an hour to find it, or the answer is “we'll look tomorrow”.
No script supervisor, no notes, three camera cards and a drone. Whoever shot it is on the next job and the footage is a mystery.
Prewatch indexes every clip on your Mac, so Claude or ChatGPT knows what is in your footage and can build the cut with you in DaVinci Resolve Studio.
| What you get | Where it runs | What it does for you |
|---|---|---|
| The log, done before day one | On your Mac | Transcripts, speakers told apart, shot changes, camera motion and quality flags for every clip, written while the cards copy. |
| Answers in one question | Your AI app | Your editor, or you, asks Claude or ChatGPT for the line, the shot or the moment and gets the clip and the timecode back. |
| Moments worth cutting | Claude or OpenAI | What happens in each clip and the ranges worth using, rated for usability. With your own Claude or OpenAI API key, priced before it runs. |
| Bad takes caught early | On your Mac | Soft, dark, frozen and shaky footage flagged per clip, so a pickup can be booked before the crew wraps the project. |
| A log the whole team reads | On your Mac | Plain files next to the footage on the shared drive. The editor, the assistant and the next freelancer all read the same index. |
You ask in Claude or ChatGPT. Prewatch answers with the clips, the seconds and the timecode, and your assistant builds the timeline in DaVinci Resolve Studio.
Every clip where it's said, with the line, the clip name and the source timecode.
Your AI appThe clips flagged soft, dark or shaky that day, so you know before the edit is booked.
Your AI appA timeline in DaVinci Resolve Studio with the strongest moments, ready to review.
Your AI appNo. Prewatch indexes the footage beside the project. Editors who cut in DaVinci Resolve Studio 21.1+ can have their assistant build timelines; anyone else still gets the transcripts, flags and search as plain files.
No. Prewatch works from the footage itself after the shoot, so nobody has to mark takes while filming.
The app is a subscription per Mac. Optional descriptions use your own Claude or OpenAI key, billed by them: a fraction of a cent for a typical clip, priced up front in Settings.
Building timelines by chat needs DaVinci Resolve Studio 21.1 or later, whose built-in MCP server lets your assistant work in Resolve. With the free version you can still index your footage, search it and ask Claude or ChatGPT about it, then place the clips yourself. A file handoff that the free version can import is planned.
Point Prewatch at a folder you have already shot, then ask about it in Claude or ChatGPT.
