The beat is two lines long
Episode four turns on thirty seconds in the kitchen on day nine. Unless a logger caught it and typed it up, it is buried in hundreds of hours nobody watches twice.
Cameras roll all day for weeks. Prewatch transcribes every clip on your Mac, tells the voices apart and sorts the footage into shoot days, so story producers can ask for a beat instead of waiting on the log.
14 days free, then $59 a year or $7.99 a month. Works with your Claude or ChatGPT plan; timelines need DaVinci Resolve Studio 21.1+. Clip descriptions are optional and use your own API key, billed by Anthropic or OpenAI.
Episode four turns on thirty seconds in the kitchen on day nine. Unless a logger caught it and typed it up, it is buried in hundreds of hours nobody watches twice.
Every camera rolls for hours a day. Loggers transcribe and note who said what, but the backlog grows faster than they can work, and story producers wait on it.
The cut starts while the cast is still filming. A story producer needs every mention of the fight today, not when the transcription service sends the files back next week.
Prewatch indexes every clip on your Mac, so Claude or ChatGPT knows what is in your footage and can build the cut with you in DaVinci Resolve Studio.
| What you get | Where it runs | What it does for you |
|---|---|---|
| Transcripts of every clip | On your Mac | Whisper on the Mac's GPU, every line with its seconds and source timecode, plus one Markdown file holding the folder's whole transcript to search or print. |
| Who speaks when | On your Mac | Up to four voices told apart within each clip, overlapping talk included, and the same voice recognized across clips. Your team names the cast once; nobody is named by the app. |
| Raised voices | On your Mac | Loudness for every clip and the moments that jump above the room, where the shout, the laugh or the argument is likely to be. |
| Confessionals sorted from scenes | Claude or OpenAI | Each clip's role, such as interview, talking to camera, dialogue or b-roll, judged from its frames and words. With your own Claude or OpenAI API key. |
| Reactions and turning points | Claude or OpenAI | Laughter, swearing, surprise and the lines where the talk turns, each with an in point and a usability score from 1 to 5. |
| Shoot days on shared storage | On your Mac | Clips grouped into days and scenes by capture time. One Mac indexes; every Mac on the share reads the same plain files, with or without Prewatch. |
You ask in Claude or ChatGPT. Prewatch answers with the clips, the seconds and the timecode, and your assistant builds the timeline in DaVinci Resolve Studio.
The exchanges from those days, each with the lines, the speaker labels, the clip and the timecode, in shoot order.
Your AI appThe reaction moments from day 12 with their usability scores, timecode and the lines said just before each one.
Your AI appA timeline in DaVinci Resolve Studio with each bite trimmed to its lines, in the order they were shot.
Your AI appYou can, and only you. Prewatch recognizes the same voice across the folder's clips and lists everyone it hears; you give each one a name, and the name follows them into every transcript and to your AI. Matching is strict, so the same person may first appear twice: select both and merge. In a dinner scene with eight people, up to four voices are told apart and the quieter ones join the one they sound most like. Voiceprints stay on your Mac.
No. Prewatch indexes each file on its own and doesn't sync cameras or audio or build multicam clips. It groups clips into scenes by capture time, which shows what was rolling together; do the sync in your editor.
Not for transcripts, speakers, days or search: those run on the Mac, and no video or audio is uploaded. Roles and reactions need your own Claude or OpenAI API key and send still keyframes and transcript text only, at a cost shown up front, so you can leave them off for a show under a strict NDA.
Building timelines by chat needs DaVinci Resolve Studio 21.1 or later, whose built-in MCP server lets your assistant work in Resolve. With the free version you can still index your footage, search it and ask Claude or ChatGPT about it, then place the clips yourself. A file handoff that the free version can import is planned.
Prewatch is an App Store subscription with a 14-day free trial: $59 a year or $7.99 a month after it. You manage or cancel it in your Apple Account's subscription settings; cancel before the trial ends and you are not charged.
Point Prewatch at a folder you have already shot, then ask about it in Claude or ChatGPT.
